Here are 2 very important details to know about HVAC filters.

What are the different types of filters?

There are 5 different kinds of filters. Fiberglass/Synthetic fiber filters, polyester filters, electrostatic filters, pleated filters, and HEPA filters. Fiberglass/synthetic fiber filters are the cheapest and most easily disposable option to use. They can catch up to 80% of the particles that are around 50 microns or larger and about 25% of the particles that are between 3 to 10 microns. Polyester filters are made from the highest quality materials that are available. They can catch 80% to 95% of particles 5 microns and larger, making it a much more efficient filter than the previous, but it also costs 4 times as much as the previous. Electrostatic filters use the self charging fibers to attract particles and dust out of the air. They are one of the most efficient and reusable filters on the market and very effective in any home. Pleated filters are literally what they are called: material that has been pleated and turned into a filter. These filters have higher results than any other filter because they trap particles that are 0.3 microns and higher. HEPA filters, or high efficiency particulate air filters, are high end filters that trap 99% of particles that are 0.3 microns or larger. They are equally as efficient as the pleated filters, but are just made of higher end materials.
